Long Sleeve Polo Shirts

Long sleeve polo shirts or polo shirts are also known as golf shirt or tennis shirt, is a t- shirt with a collar and buttons and some times comes with a pocket. Polo shirts are generally made from knitted cloth as opposed to woven cloth usually from cotton and at times although rare, from wool and even silk. In the early 1920s the French tennis star Lacost decided that traditional tennis clothing was both impractical and uncomfortable to play tennis in. It consisted of a long sleeve shirt that was buttoned and they had to roll up the sleeves to play. So Mr. Lacoste designed what we refer to today as long sleeve polo shirts, a t-shirt like clothing with collars.

But little later an Argentinean gentleman by the name of Lewis lacey started selling this type shirt first made by lacoste and put an emblem of a polo player on it, thereby giving its identity to the sport, polo, even though tennis players have been using it before. Indeed tennis players to this day refer to it as a polo shirt, or long sleeve polo shirts. It is a testament as to what marketing can do to a product and how the identity itself can change with something as simple as a logo.

Nowadays long sleeve polo shirts have come a long way, what with the different types of fabric to choose from. There are polo shirts that are designed to keep one cool by taking heat and sweat away from the body by a combination of heat and moisture dissipating fabrics, and such things ventilation channels and fabrics such as three dimensional fabrics that make your long sleeve polo shirts more breathable and comfortable.

Long sleeve polo shirts are usually worn in winter months. It is the cold climate cousin of the short sleeve polo shirt. For people who may have to walk in and out of a building on a regular basis in cold climates then long sleeve polo shirts would be the obvious choice. It is not unusual to see the polo shirts being customized for a particular business by putting a logo on the collar or chest or the sleeves or a specific color or color pattern on the shirt. Long sleeve polo shirts can also look good with a pocket either on the chest or lower on the left or right side, it can make it look classy and not to mention practical. There are polo shirts that are available in silk which can be worn in more formal settings, like corporate meetings, and as we all know silk is a very comfortable fabric. With all these reasons and more the long sleeve polo shirt is popular both with the business crowd and the out door types, protecting one from the cold, getting scratched and mosquito bites.
